Grounding

Grounding can have a profound effect on our bodies! As part of Reiki, we utilise this to help ground a person in the here and now which helps to reduce anxiety and stress also!

On the most basic level, it also helps us reconnect to nature – and who doesn’t feel amazing after that?!

It has the potential to reduce pain in chronic conditions by:

  • improving inflammation pathways

  • altering lymphocytes and neutrophils

  • improving circulation

  • improving sleep

  • reducing cortisol

And… It can help increase our energy by giving us a little recharge also!

There are a few ways we can help ground ourselves. Reiki is one, flower essences is another. Dandelion is fantastic for this and helps increase focus and concentration – so it’s perfect when we are feeling very overwhelmed and procrastination is heightened.

Foods, such as root vegetables and root herbs, such as dandelion and chicory are also fantastic for assisting the grounding process.

There is also a fantastic little grounding exercise you can do whenever you need to.

So are you ready to give this “grounding” a try?

  • Start by taking your shoes off

  • Stand or sit comfortably on the grass

  • This is best done in the sun (mid-morning or afternoon) or moonlight

  • Spend 5 minutes visualizing:

    • Your feet becoming one with the ground

    • Growing roots from your feet, deep into the earth centre

    • Your feet disappearing and becoming part of the earth

  • Feel the sun/moon beaming down on you, absorb the energy that you feel on your skin

  • Imagine that energy helping you grow energetically like the sun helps a sunflower

  • Notice any emotions or thoughts that come up, simply let them float through your head as you feel the grass on your feet

  • When you are ready, slowly open your eyes and move your body around

  • Notice how you feel and return to this exercise whenever you need to
